Tasting Notes

Introduction:

My good friend, found here on my hiking blog, introduced Woodinville to me on his return from a family visit in Washington state. I had yet to see Woodinville at the stores (now it seems it’s everywhere) and instantly loved the uniqueness of the Double Barrel. Unfortunately, Double Barrel seems to be more elusive than most of their other whiskeys’ (seems they may be limiting their supply, covid??) and can only be purchased on the distillery site. Even more unfortunate, it is also one of my wife’s favorite whiskeys. I therefore attempt to go through these bottles extremely slow. But so far of the four whiskey’s I’ve had the pleasure of tasting from this distillery, this is absolutely my favorite. I’m also stoked I finally get to use that sipper for my photo!

Color:

Temptation Tawny

Nose:

Warm wooden hazelnut. Smell is definitely more unique than most. Meringue and oily toffee tickles the inside of my nose as well. Not hardly strong at all. It is only 86 proof on the other hand.

Palate:

Palate confirms what the nose reveals in a multitude of flavors. Hits the tongue very malty and buttery. Then the lonely caramel frolicked with some cedar and made some custardy dried cherry babies. Similar to the nose, it’s not warm like most bourbons. Again, it’s only 86 proof. Definitely a good beginner whiskey that doesn’t like it too hot.

Conclusion:

This is a great whiskey. Very easy to sip, very unique, sweet and flavorful. I know I’ve only been saying great things, but have only put it at a 6.5. Why Kyle?? Well, I think I prefer the whiskey strength that gives me a numb tongue. I however loooove the uniqueness and the sweetness of this. It almost seems too sweet or smooth to be called a whiskey! But at the end of the day, I really prefer the more vanilla and oak flavors you get out of a good ole Kentucky bourbon. There’s just something about north western whiskey’s that give it a weird (not necessarily in a bad way) flavor.

Try this if you like:

I honestly don’t even know…what else is this sweet, buttery with a hint of Washington flavor?
