Smokey Smash

Introduction:

We have some fresh basil in our pots, and succulent blackberries from the store. I really wanted to mix that with mezcal and just nailed it on my first go. The basil aroma just went perfect with this smash riff. Light on the mezcal for those who want a good introductory mezcal drink.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz. mezcal
  • ½ oz. lemon juice
  • ½ oz. agave syrup
  • 2-3 blackberries
  • 2-3 basil leaves
Garnish
  • blackberry & basil

Preparation:

Muddle blackberries and basil in shaker. Add ice and all ingredients and lightly shake for 7-8 seconds. Pour into glass with small or crushed ice cubes. Garnish appropriately.

Notes:

1 ½ oz. of mezcal yielded a really good light drink. I think I’d prefer 2 oz. however.

Rubbing the inside of the glass with basil helped with the aroma as well.
