Tasting Notes

Introduction:

I’ve always enjoyed whiskeys from Heaven Hill Distillery, and they have such a large line up including Elijah Craig, Larceny, Old Fitzgerald, Evan Williams and my favorite: Henry McKenna. It’s hard to not pick up a bottle of Heaven Hill BIB when it’s both allocated and only $50.

Color:

Burnt Ends Umber

Nose:

Rich sweetness first enters the nose upon first sniff, along with the very standard vanilla caramel that makes up most classic archetypical bourbons. Smells really smooth, with tiny warmness of alcoholic pear.

Palate:

Little warm, but goes down smoothly. Starts with sweet vanilla, and quickly turns into a lingering hint of old oak and cooked mash. Breathe out turns from cooked mash to a toffee-ish mash.

Conclusion:

It’s a good damn whiskey. I’m not sure if I would spend more then $50 on it though. I love having it along with all other Heaven Hill products, but I still love Henry McKenna and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof better. Really good flavor, not super complex however. And the lingering mash/porridge taste drops it point on my tongue.

Try this if you like:

Any Elijah Craig Product, Larceny or Henry McKenna. If you like the corn/mash taste, I’d recommend any Willet product.
