Tasting Notes
Introduction:
Yet another one I’ve been looking forward to (I have a lot I’m excited about actually). Eagle rare has been a staple of mine for years, especially for the price point. It’s unfortunate all Buffalo Trace products have been hard to find recently, especially amid the pandemic. Hopefully BT’s billion-dollar expansion will help with higher distribution in the years to come.
Color:
Lip-Licking Polished Mahogany
Nose:
I can’t articulate it, but it just comes across as a BT product. The sweet aroma starts a bit caramelly. Slight madeira finish with a little bit of toffee. Oaky orange muddled in there as well.
Palate:
Strong oak flavors to start. A bit spicy, then quickly drops off and ends with dry caramel and slight chocolate.
Conclusion:
If I have at least a few bottles on hand, it’s one of my go to boozes for cocktails. It’s inexpensive, (sometimes) available, great flavor and goes well with just about any whiskey cocktail. It’s nice to sip on, but doesn’t compare to half my whiskies for a night starter. As I’ve always enjoyed the flavor, it’s just not complex enough for me. And like most lower end BT products, the flavor ends just too quickly. It’s for these reason’s I’m putting this at a solid 5.
