Tasting Notes

Introduction:

I know I’m already going into this one biased. I’ll admit that up front. I’ve loved Blanton’s for years. And I generally go for single barrel’s as it is. It’s unfortunate how damn hard it is to get nowadays. Every once in awhile I’ll get lucky to buy a bottle for under $100 at random stores, even out of state. I understand the hype. I understand many think it’s overrated. But I just love this damn whiskey so much. It’s a shame that before COVID I was even passing bottles up for $70-80 at multiple liquor stores. Shame on me I guess…

Color:

Titillating Tawny

Nose:

Instantly still smells like a BT product, but more unique than every other BT product I own. Very inviting. Sweet caramel butterscotch. Vanilla oak that’s nowhere near overpowering like some whiskeys. It finishes with a bit of pepper which makes sense with the high rye mash.

Palate:

I think why I like this one more than most BT products, is it starts the same: smooth vanilla, sweet charred oak. What makes this one more unique, like the smell, is the complexity near the end: buttery, pepper kick, confirming the high rye presence. Very first sip seems a little hot, but everything afterwards is warm and golden.

Conclusion:

If you can buy it for under $80-90, get it. Plain and simple. It’s damn good. It’s rare. Bottle looks cool. And anyone who knows whiskey will be impressed you have it. Solid 8 in my book.

Try this if you like:

Four Roses Single Barrel, Stellum Bourbon, Henry McKenna, most Weller products and high rye bourbons.
