Tasting Notes

Introduction:

For some reason I decided to review a plastic bottle whiskey. Mostly knowing it came from Buffalo Trace and I had yet to try it. Figured it was worth the gamble, and will be able to add it to my future “5 whiskey’s under $20” segment. There’s definitely a reason they sell it in plastic, and it’s a go-to well whiskey at a lot of bars. Wouldn’t classify this as a sipper however- maybe a shooter if you’re into that. Not a high recommendation, unless you’re on a budget.

Color:

Confused Copper Colored Chestnuts

Nose:

Almost lightly smell that typical vanilla/oak BTness. Light smell indeed, especially at only 80 proof. I receive a bit of old wine cellar smell with a hint of cherry. A long, deep smell will start to yield more alcoholic solvent.

Palate:

The taste is instantly light with little flavor. Probably the least hot whiskey I own. It’s not bad by any means, just taste a little cheap and is very very simple. So simple I’m having a tough time putting a flavor to it. Was really looking forward to the cherry smell coming out in taste, but alas, it does not. It does start with light corny vanilla, with a dry oak finish that’s a little sharp. At least the sharpness isn’t hot nor lingers.

Conclusion:

I was really hoping if anything that I could use it for cocktails, but the flavor is so damn light, I’ll have to become creative with them and serve to those who aren’t huge fans of strong whiskey drinks. I did have semi high hopes for it coming from BT, which frankly may have biased me. Then again, it is a plastic bottle whiskey….and $20 for a handle! Unless I can find a good use for it however, I probably won’t be buying this again. Maybe will taste great if I barrel it for some time. Will keep y’all posted if I do!
