Tasting Notes

Introduction:

I just wanted to do this one directly after Basil Hayden Toast. Not sure if that skews my biases? Either way

Color:

Trivial Tawny

Nose:

Sweet, sweeter than the toast. Definitely comes across more like a bourbon. Still a little warm at the end, with a light fruitiness, almost pearish.

Palate:

Pretty simple. Goes down smoother than the toast, not quite the warm finish. A little nutty, almost like an almond soaked in some cereal.

Conclusion:

I definitely like this just a tad more than Toast, but Basil Hayden for me hasn’t ever been a must have on shelf, but I wouldn’t pass it up if on sale. The nuttiness of it adds a variety to the rest of my collection. I’d say it’s a perfectly average whiskey.

Try this if you like:

Basil Hayden Toast, any Jim Beam. Bookers, Bakers and Little Book for the high end stuff.
