Ancho Mezcal Old Fashioned

Introduction:

My brother gave me a bottle of Ancho Reyes Verde as he found it disgusting and was curious what I can mix with it. Challenge accepted. It’s fairly obviously that either Ancho Reyes liqueurs aren’t meant to be the main course, at least to most. So first drink I attempted with it was a mezcal old fashioned with a side of the green poblano flavor. A great kick to a great classic.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. mezcal
  • ⅜ oz. Ancho Reyes Verde
  • ⅜ oz. Agave
  • few dashes orange bitters
  • few dashes chocolate bitters
Garnish
  • Lemon wheel

Preparation:

  • Stir all ingredients with ice.
  • Pour into old fashioned glass with large rock
  • Garnish

Notes:

Careful with Ancho amount. Some like more, other’s less. ⅜ oz. seems to be a good starting point. Definitely adds a fun spice and pairs damn well with mezcal or tequila.

Extra credit if you freeze and orange or lemon wheel in your ice!
